| Weeds compete with commercial
nursery, greenhouse and container garden crops for
nutrients, light and water and competition from weeds
for these kinds of plants is harmful because of the
limited root system of new plants. Weeds can bring
insects, disease and animal pests. Marketable
nursery crops need to be free of weeds, insects and
other diseases to have the best customer appeal and
bring the best prices. Most
recommendations for controlling weeds in container
growing operations include the use of sanitized soil,
the use of pre-emergence herbicides, mechanical
cultivation and hand weeding. For organic
container growers, herbicides are not possible and
sanitized soil is counterproductive for encouraging
earthworms and micro organisms that naturally enhance
soil fertility. All of these inputs cost you
money and reduce your profits.
EcoCover
has developed the ideal weed barrier for container grown
plants: EcoPotTops.
EcoCover paper mulch mat is cut
into disks of varying sizes to fit snugly within the
perimeter of the growing container or pot. The mat
is slit to the center and cross-slit to provide
clearance for a plant stem and expansion for growth.
EcoPotTops:
- Suppress weed growth
- Prevent sunlight from reaching the soil
- Conserve soil moisture and water
- Moderate soil temperature fluctuations
- Add organic nutrients to the soil.
EcoCover contains an organic fertilizer with a NPK
value of 6-3-3.
- Boost plant growth.

report.
- Can be planted with the plant when it is removed
from the pot. No waste disposal.
- Can be manufactured in a wide range of sizes and
can be die-cut to custom shapes.
- Are organically certified in New Zealand.
- Are 100 percent biodegradable.
- Are economical.
EcoCover research
indicates that around the world in developed
economies, there are approximately 3.8 container
grown plants purchased annually per person. This is
true in New Zealand, Australia, the USA, Canada and
across Europe. Thus, in the USA with approximately
300 million population, the potential demand for
EcoPotTops is over 1 BILLION per year.
In the USA the market
potential for this product exceeds $100 million in
annual sales. It would take more than
20 EcoCover manufacturing plants
running 2 shifts 48 weeks to supply this single
market. The worldwide market for EcoCover as a
replacement for plastic film used for mulch presently
exceeds 20 million acres.
EcoCover PotTop can be imported
if order in sufficient quantity, but the EcoCover
proposition is to sell the manufacturing plants to make
EcoCover patented products under license in your
location of choice. Shipping product half way
around the world is not long tern economically feasible
or sustainable.
